Fynbos Logo concepts

Postby Ndz » Sun Feb 07, 2010 3:07 am

Our first project of the year in Communication Design... We have to do a logo, letterhead, business card, menu etc for a restaurant. Any restaurant/deli/cafe with a South African flavour/design. Our class chose the name "Fynbos".
I decided to choose a cake and coffee shop and go for a chic, urban african style with a bit of french design in it.

oh and we have to use specific fonts so i cant change that.... :P

Inspiration:

So I just want to work in these colours:

And these are my logos:

They look good. :D

The third one's got this weird thing going on with the text; with the text going over where the dark brown and light green join, it starts partially fading into the background. I'm guessing that this is unintentional...

in some of them I keep reading fynbos fake coffee shop ... :)
I'll look at them again when I have fully woken up but so far

1.its cool I like, but it reminds me of a mall or shopping centre logo
2. I can't really comment, I'm not sure why but I don't like them
3. this is a pretty cool design I'd just watch for the white Y getting a little lost in the glowy lime green circle
4. this is a cool logo, clean and simple (maybe I just prefer a modernish style so I'm definitely biased)
5. like 4 its pretty cool personal preference would say try it in green rather than that blue though.

having just woken up I totally missed out on what particular feel you wanted
but if its a more classic bygone era feel than than 2 and 3 work with 3 being more classy.
modern or current day, organic with a bit of elegance I'd say 1.
4 is also modern but has a tech feel that perhaps doesn't suit a coffee shop.
modern day with a mix of tech and a touch of organic with a relaxed perhaps slightly fun feel is the coffee shop
of number 5.

the above descriptions are based to the best of my ability on the feelings evoked in me by the logo's.
oh and of course this is coming from someone who isn't and hasn't studied design and has the tiniest little smidgeon
of understanding/experience so if I'm talking smack don't lynch me :)

all in all awesome stuff :)

Cool thanx guys :)
Yeah...in number 3 i dint want the type to be too small but then it went over the green/brown parts...but ill fix it there.
And yeah the feel must be modern and current but a bit of elegance too...thats why want to use some twirly/floral with African colours. I like number 5 too the most cause i prefer minimalistic logos overall...i did that one first and then went crazy with the others :P

I have to say I preferred your first attempts more, especially number two in the concept the list. That is a great logo concept. It's strong and eye-catching but still has some flare with the florish-type layout. I really think you should work on that one more. :D

Agree with ubs, the first set is prettier ^_^ Make sure, though, that you ask: "If this was in black and white, would it communicate as effectively?"

I think thus far the only thing that's getting across the South African flavour is your colour palette.
